It’s super rare when an old concept car is listed for sale, and even more rare on craigslist! It’s not street-legal, but I wonder how hard it would be to make it street-legal - seems like it’s just an f150 with a stock drivetrain underneath.

Oh I’ll bet money I could have that legal in Michigan by the end of the day tomorrow. As long as I can get a VIN from something on that truck, I’m good.

What I’m seeing is a truck that needs to go to a more “free” state. I bet here in Indiana I could get this registered. Or I could just run it with whatever plates I want.

It’s probably doable to be road legal, but is it road worthy? How much of the truck isn’t functional that would make it meh to drive?

I like this detail, I want more things to be like this:
seats upholstered in a tribal flame pattern that matched the custom tread cut into the tires

Hagerty says it has a stock 5.4L V8 and a 4-speed auto. And being a body-on-frame truck, I wonder if it’s just a body dropped over a fully-functional bone-stock F150 body.

Are you kidding me? I could have that legal in Ohio by the end of the day TODAY even if it doesn’t have a VIN!
... yes by way of Florida.

Probably needs small dumb stuff like windshield squirters, wipers, reflectors ect. They usually don't bother on concepts

The exterior is fantastic, but the interior makes me want to claw my eyes out.

Most likely would be to take a rusty F150, replace the frame with this frame. Then replace the body with this body.

I remember when the Lightning Rod Concept was on display at the Toronto Auto Show.
I’m glad it lives on and wasn’t crushed.

The ad says it has no VIN... and that might make it hard to register it.

It’s alright. Personally, I’d rather have the one that was unveiled two
years later.
5.4 liter V8 with an Eaton supercharger, putting out 500 horsepower and 500 pound feet of torque with a Tremec T56 6-speed manual.
Same horsepower and only 25 pound feet of torque less than the new at the time Ram SRT-10. Plus, 120 more horsepower and 50 pound feet of torque more than the SVT Lightning it would have replaced, had it gone into production.
Likely lighter weight and more aerodynamic body would probably have meant it would have been quicker and faster than either
Take into consideration - 2003 F-150 XLT Regular Cab V8 4X2 weight: 4,032 lbs, 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Regular Cab V8 4X2 weight: 4,516. Given that the SRT-10 Regular Cab weighs about 5,130 lbs, that could have likely put a production ‘04 SVT Lightning at around 4,500-4,600 lbs when comparably equipped, powertrain differences aside.
The 2001 SVT Lightning had a 0-60 of 5.2 seconds. The 2003 SRT-10 Regular Cab could do it in 4.9. I’d say a production version of this concept would do it between 4.8 and 4.6 seconds.
